STRACTA for operations managers

Operations managers and general superintendents balance people and equipment across jobs and deal with the day's problems. STRACTA puts the whole dispatch, the overview and the attention items in one place, so a decision made at 10:30 AM goes to the field as a published update.

The broken-down broker truck reported from Harborview Corridor at 10:20 AM appears in the office as an open item that needs attention, with the foreman's description and its impact on the paver.

The job

What you're responsible for.

  1. Balancing crews, machines and trucks across jobs
  2. Making the early-morning go or no-go call
  3. Dealing with breakdowns, no-shows and site problems
  4. Making sure tomorrow's plan and equipment moves are ready
  5. Keeping production on track against the plan

In STRACTA

What you see and do.

On a computer, in the full STRACTA workspace. What you can open depends on your role.

  • The whole board

Every project on the daily dispatch, with its crew, equipment, company trucks and broker trucks, and its Draft or Published status.

  • Attention items

Field issues reported from the phone, such as a truck or machine down, appear in one list for authorized users.

  • Tomorrow's moves

Equipment moves show the machine, truck, trailer, driver and the time each machine must be available at its next job.

  • Progress across projects

Each project's production against its baseline, from the quantities foremen record each day.

Access depends on your company's setup

Operations managers are usually given access across all projects, so they can see the full dispatch, the overview and attention items. Whether they publish the dispatch themselves or leave that to dispatchers depends on the permissions your company sets.

A day in STRACTA

One day, hour by hour.

This role's part of one Tuesday at a paving contractor, from the first publish to the record of the day.

  1. After overnight showers, Paul V. makes the weather call with the paving foremen by phone. Harborview's first load moves to 9:30 AM so the milled surface can dry before tack.

  2. Revision 1 is published: 4 projects, 24 people, 12 pieces of equipment and 10 broker trucks.

  3. The BT-02 breakdown on Harborview shows as needing attention. Paul and dispatcher Dana K. agree to take BT-08 off Ridgeline Road, where the grader sets the pace and three trucks can keep up.

  4. Dana publishes revision 2, and the two affected foremen get an in-app notification.

  5. Paul checks tomorrow's move: paver PV-02 to Bellwether Pointe on float FL-01, available at 6:30 AM Wednesday.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can I see every job's day in one place?

Yes. The daily dispatch shows every project with its crew, equipment, company trucks and broker trucks, and the overview totals what is on site.

What shows up as needing attention?

Field issues reported by foremen, such as a truck or machine down, and outstanding work appear as attention items for authorized users.

Can I see what changed after the plan was published?

Yes. Each published update to the dispatch is a new revision, and Reports and History keeps the operational record of the day.

Can I tell STRACTA what I need instead of typing it in?

Yes. Say it or type it in a sentence, such as “Move PV-02 to Bellwether Pointe tonight with Dev on the float, ready for 6:30.” STRACTA creates the equipment move with the truck, trailer and driver, ready to review.
