STRACTA for project managers

Project managers need to know where each job stands against its plan. In STRACTA each project carries its production baseline, progress and daily quantities, with the foreman's production entries, photos, documents and tasks kept with the job.

The Harborview Corridor project card shows 1,600 of 2,880 tonnes placed against a baseline of 1,780 tonnes through today, with 140 tonnes recorded so far today.

The job

What you're responsible for.

  1. Delivering the job against its scope and schedule
  2. Tracking production against the plan
  3. Keeping drawings, photos and project files in order
  4. Following up field issues and tasks with the foreman
  5. Reporting progress to the client

In STRACTA

What you see and do.

On a computer, in the full STRACTA workspace. What you can open depends on your role.

  • Baseline and progress

Each project shows quantities placed to date, the production baseline through today, and what was recorded today.

  • Daily production from the field

Foremen's production entries arrive with quantities, hours and photos, attached to the project and the day.

  • Documents with the job

Project files and photos are kept in Documents, so the job's paperwork sits next to its production record.

  • Tasks with owners and deadlines

Follow-ups such as adjusting frames before paving are assigned to a named person with a deadline, so nothing depends on someone remembering.

Access depends on your company's setup

Project managers typically see the projects they're responsible for: baseline, progress, production entries, documents and tasks. Whether they can also edit the daily dispatch is a permission your company decides.

A day in STRACTA

One day, hour by hour.

This role's part of one Tuesday at a paving contractor, from the first publish to the record of the day.

  1. Helen A. checks that Harborview's published assignment covers Sta. 1+200 to 1+690, with 320 t of HL3 planned.

  2. Task T-118 is due: Marco D. is assigned to adjust three maintenance hole frames at Sta. 1+350 before paving reaches them.

  3. Marco's production entry comes in: 140 t of HL3 placed so far, 18.0 hours and a photo at Sta. 1+600.

  4. Harborview shows 1,600 t placed of 2,880 t (55.6%), against a baseline of 1,780 t through today (61.8%). Only 140 t of today's 320 t is recorded so far and paving continues, so Helen reads the 180 t difference as today's unfinished work.

FAQ

Common questions.

How does STRACTA show project progress?

Each project carries a production baseline. The daily quantities recorded from the field build up its progress, so you can compare what has been placed with the baseline through today.

Who records daily production?

Usually the foreman, from the phone at the end of the shift: quantities, hours and photos. Your company decides who has permission to record and review production.

Can estimators use STRACTA too?

Yes, as users your company invites. An estimator might review recorded production and project history from past jobs. What they can see depends on the permissions they are given.

Can I add a follow-up task without opening a form?

Yes. Tell STRACTA what you need, such as “Add a task for Wes to confirm the catch basin frames by 3 today.” It creates the task with the assignee, the project and the deadline.
